District Rule 4901 reduces emissions from wood-burning fireplaces, wood-burning heaters, and outdoor wood-burning devices in the Valley through stringent curtailment requirements during the wood-burning season (i.e., November through February). Since inception, the District’s multifaceted and robust residential wood-burning emission reduction strategy has proven to be extremely effective in reducing PM2.5 emissions and advancing the District’s objectives to attain National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) and protecting public health.
Per commitments in the 2024 PM2.5 Plan, the District is undergoing a rule evaluation process to identify other potential enhancements to further reduce PM2.5 emissions from wood-burning devices, including the extension of the wood-burning season through March 31.
