1. Turn off the lights when you leave a room. Also, don't forget to switch off heaters, computers, and small appliances when you are finished using them. Use electrical appliances sparingly during peak energy-use periods between noon and 5pm. 2. Suggest that people replace energy-hungry incandescent light bulbs with energy-efficient compact florescent bulbs. 3. Use energy-efficient appliances and ask people to order energy efficient products. Check the labels on everything from refrigerators to washing machines. New technologies are giving us better and better choices for saving energy. 4. Microwave small meals because it is more energy efficient. 5. Recommend use of a programmable thermostat that automatically turns off the air conditioner or heater when you don't need them. Better yet, use a fan when you can to stay cool. |
