Own a 2006 or older high polluting car that you’re willing to give up?

Get money from the Valley Air District to replace your older, high-polluting vehicle with a newer hybrid or electric vehicle. The program is limited to vehicle owners residing in the jurisdiction of the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District who meet the income and vehicle requirements.

The District Governing Board has approved updates to the DCSJ Replace Program which includes the eligibility of model year 2006 and older vehicles while also no longer requiring an emission failure.

Funding Options

Replacement Vehicle Types
(Model year must be 8 years old or newer. In 2026, eligible model years include 2019, 2020, and newer.)
  • PHEV - Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles utilize power from a battery and an onboard gas powered generator (example: Chevy Volt)
  • EV - Electric Vehicles are purely powered by a battery charged from an external electrical source (example: Nissan Leaf)

Restrictions

Replacement funding cannot be combined with the Drive Clean in the San Joaquin Rebate funding.

Funding cannot be combined with the Driving Clean Assistance Program.

Only one car replacement is allowed per individual, per lifetime.

Private party purchases do not qualify.

How Does The Funding Work?

The Valley Air District's Replace program is available to individuals whose household income is at or below 300 percent of federal poverty level (FPL). The table below indicates the funding available based on the type of vehicle you intend to purchase, your household income and whether you live in a Disadvantaged Community. The incentive calculator above can estimate your potential funding level.

The Valley Air District is seeking interested new and used vehicle dealerships to become an approved Drive Clean in the San Joaquin dealer.
